The stretch from the southern end of the Sierras up to Mammoth is uniquely beautiful. The scale of the landscape is vast, with the characteristics of its violent geologic past in view everywhere you look. The community of Lone Pine is a great launching point for some of the most amazing landscapes to explore and just a short drive away to an area known as the Alabama Hills. It is in this area that my first photographic visit took place represented by the following photographs. I was alone for this trip and was out in the pre-dawn darkness experiencing a powerful solitude and magical quiet. It was truly a special time.
