Rare Cool Summer Weekend at the Cabin Usually trips to the cabin in the middle of summer are not in the cards due to high temps, 90s -100, but Lisa and I had our eye on the forecast as it was for high 70s and 60s at night. Perfect! We had to get creative to get by the typical holiday traffic jam through the Santa Barbara corridor which actually made the drive enjoyable. We were happy to see an out […]
Ventura Point Sunset Needing to smell the sea breeze and clear my head from many concentrated hours at the computer I headed to Ventura Point beach with camera and tripod to see what could be captured. No June gloom for a change with just a few clouds. The light was exquisite and the time spent in this spot brought my awareness back to simplicity. This is a series of six photographs that include some long exposures utilizing various ND filters. Please […]
Marine Layer Over the Valley I’ve spent the last couple of weekends at our cabin on Figueroa Mountain replacing some windows. This past weekend a condition started to develop that I haven’t seen for a while where the marine layer blew in covering the Santa Ynez valley but the ceiling of the layer remained below the level of the cabin. With the presence of the full moon I was hoping for an opportunity to photograph the moonlit clouds from above. […]
Visit to the Beach After a very busy week, I looked forward to the long weekend and a chance for some photography. I did manage to complete a small photo shoot for a recently completed custom kitchen remodel last week so I did get my hands on the camera. Not quite the same though as getting outside and feeling the immersion. The perceived problem though, was our weather here at this time of year, May grey, June gloom, constant marine layer. […]
Gorgeous Light on the Mountain Spent last Friday and Saturday with James at the cabin with Lisa joining us Saturday midday. It was windy and kinda cold at times dropping into the 30s at night. Though the flowers are done for the most part, the scenery and lighting were exquisite as always. There are a few photos where I used a nuetral density filter to be able to slow the shutter speed down in order to capture the effect of the […]
A solo trip to the cabin with Guaco and Mole. It’s always a magical time at our place on the mountain. A very quiet weekend without much in the way of wildlife and birds stirring about but there’s always the dogs enjoying a free frolic. I did get lucky with the end of the day view from the lookout and was able to capture the full dimension of it by layering three separate exposures. The sunsets are always prime in […]
